Teaching Artist Training Notes
On March 6, 2026, the group did a smaller version of the Teaching Artist Training. We learned the history of Intertwine Arts and Saori weaving.
At the end we discussed next steps and requirements. There's need for a new 3D Loom, but also some fixes on the existing Saori Loom. As of right now, I'm not sure we should prioritize those. We'd need to review issues, 3D scan and run a design session in person. We went over requirements again.
3D Loom Requirements
- Portable;
- Able to attach and swap in different assistive features;
Fixes on the existing Saori loom
- Bigger pedals; simple & helpful;
- Mechanism for winding up the warp is janky.
- Needs to be secured as you’re winding.
- Folding is not very secure.
- A lot of these screws fall off; having replacement parts readily available.
Next steps: Find existing design for portable loom; print; put it together; demo with one of the teaching artists and go from there.
Where to see a Saori Loom in person
- Positive Exposure Exhibit - on location until March 22nd
- Heartshare Wellness Clinic, very close to campus
- After March 22nd, Intertwine Arts could loan us a loom to work with at the lab.
Assembly of prototype
- This is the prototype we're first trying out. Assembly video is available.
- Threaded Inserts for 3D print: Inês ordered this model of heat set and inserts.
